Why Many Voices, One Vision?

We must articulate a common vision for IIT by drawing on the enormous talent of our faculty, staff and students … our origins and our history … and our role here in Chicago. Shaping our vision for the future of IIT is my top priority in the coming year. We must hear from a diversity of voices. I invite each of you to join me in this historic effort. I ask for your ideas and your strategies, and I encourage you to engage in a vigorous debate-and-discussion of IIT’s future…… because we all have a stake in the outcome.

President John L. Anderson
Inauguration Address
October 30, 2007

The Many Voices, One Vision name reflects our absolute commitment to engaging and listening to the ideas and concerns of the entire IIT community. From the collection of voices representing students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees, we will define a dynamic vision to guide our future.

In the spirit of John Anderson’s inaugural address, the planning process began with a call for input from all corners of the university. More than 660 faculty, staff and students registered and submitted 300 responses to our request for your thoughts on where IIT should focus its energies and resources over the next decade as we seek to advance into the upper tier of universities.

These ideas are being reviewed, analyzed and synthesized by the steering committee. The outcome of this process will be the formation of planning task forces that will take many of these bold and visionary ideas, expand them, and then build plans for their execution.
